Sad to hear that David Eddings has passed away.

He was a major influence on my writing style. I grew up reading his works, and there were many a time while at sea when the best thing for me was not watching movies on the messdecks, but rather curling up in the rack with an oft-worn copy of one of the Belgariad novels. It's interesting how things seem to change. I'm sitting here and reading about the passing of George Carlin and remembering what a groundbreaking and incredible comedian he was. Reading about the victims of yesterday. It is horrible - a complete and senseless waste - that these were all slain.

However, one name stands out to me. I didn't know him, but after reading, I wish I did. It is always a good thing to know a person of such sterling caliber.
